WHY DO I SEE YOU IN EVERYTHING?
World Premiere: IFFR 2026 / Bright Future
Qusay and Nabil, two lifelong Syrian friends living in exile, spend a day together reflecting on a shared history of resistance and survival. Moving between bodies, memories, and archival traces, the film weaves their friendship with the legacy of revolution and a homeland that remains out of reach. Olive trees recur as witnesses to violence and loss, as well as imagined landscapes of refuge.
When they join a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Berlin, Nabil’s arrest pulls Qusay into a familiar cycle of repression, as images from the protest merge with the collapse of the Assad regime, collapsing time and geography. After his release, Nabil returns to Syria with the camera, hoping to document renewal but instead confronting renewed sectarian violence in their hometown. Across distance, rupture, and political upheaval, their bond endures – and tenderness emerges as a quiet act of resistance.
