World Premiere: IFFR 2026 / Big Screen Competition

When aspiring Polish artist Patryk struggles to sell his paintings, he finds himself at Tear Dealer, a unique art project letting people in a poverty crisis trade their tears — stored in vials — for złoty. Surrounded by sobs and mirrors, however, he is unable to shed a tear. 

It’s then that he meets Maria, the project’s conceiver and an art therapist who comes from well-off circles. The two click, but Patryk’s world couldn’t be more different. Emotionally closed-off, he helps his parents collect scrap metal in the countryside. In Warsaw, he lives in a sparse room, filled with nothing but sketches and a lone mattress. As their romance buds, they discover they may share more than they thought. Their relationship and art become an arena to work through their family traumas and turns out to be a soul-stretching exercise, but not without its share of fun.
