In the heart of Hollywood's dream machine, Russ has spent decades on the margins - as an extra in hundreds of films, always just outside the spotlight. When a young Swedish film student, Tova, meets him on set, they begin an unlikely collaboration. What starts as playful filmmaking turns into a 20-year exploration of identity, art and creativity.

As time passes, Tova's life moves forward while Russ remains in his familiar world of fleeting roles and imagined scenes. As she returns to Los Angeles after years apart, their shared fantasy has taken on a different tone – one shaped by the passing years, shifting realities, and the delicate balance between escaping the world and being consumed by it.
